The Power Steering Testbench is an automated test and analysis machine designed specifically to perform dynamic steering gearbox tests that closely emulate real-world driving conditions.
The system can control driver input to the steering gear, loads on the pitman shaft, the speed of the power steering pump, and oil temperature. A convenient Graphical User Interface is used to create, maintain, and run specific tests, it also displays the measured results.
What You Can Do
Steering Gear tests can be developed on a Control Computer using the software provided. Each of the four subsystems (driver shaft, pitman shaft, pump, and oil temperature) can be individually controlled. There are several fixed and generated settings, as well as the ability to import real-world vehicle data that recreate the conditions which occurred during actual vehicle operation.
Tests can be created, imported, edited or modified, and copied. Test parameters are listed below:
- Length of test
- Drive shaft load
- Pitman shaft load
- Power steering pump load
- Oil temperature
- Selection of measurements taken
The Control Software can also be used offline on computers not connected to the testbench, allowing test creation and test editing at locations that are more convenient.
With a variety of your own custom tests on hand, the Power Steering Testbench allows your race team to re-create the forces in play in your own workshop, diagnosing and correcting problems along the way. Enhancements can also be implemented virtually without being deployed on the car, keeping your team on the right track, even when they are not on the track.
